Our Story So Far

Emmanuel Church Northstowe began with a vision to start a gospel-centered church in the heart of Northstowe from the town’s very beginning.

In early 2017, Grace Church Cambridge decided to lead a church plant into Northstowe, in partnership with other Cambridge churches. Josh Monteiro, an elder at Grace Church, spearheaded the effort to gather people to come and plant a new church in Northstowe.

A vision for Northstowe

People from five Cambridge churches (St Andrew the Great, Rock Baptist, Eden Chapel, Cambridge Presbyterian and Grace Church) took the next step of meeting together to explore a possible new church. The exploratory group met monthly from September 2017 to map out the mission, vision, and logistics for planting a new church.

On April 29, 2018, Emmanuel Church Northstowe held its first Sunday gathering in Swavesey Memorial Hall, seeking to know Christ and make Him known in the Northstowe area. We have been meeting weekly since then, enjoying growing together as a church family. People who have moved into Northstowe have joined us, and in January 2019 we moved into a slightly larger venue, Swavesey Primary School. In summer 2019 we were finally able to meet in Northstowe when the Northstowe Community Wing opened. After spending most of 2020 online, in June 2021 we began using Northstowe Secondary College for our Sunday gatherings.

In April 2023 we celebrated 5 years of meeting together as a church family, with a party and service of thanksgiving. We also made a video to mark the occasion. We hope it gives you a taste of life at Emmanuel over the past 5 years.
