John 17: The High Priestly Prayer of Jesus

John 17 gives us the longest prayer of Jesus we have recorded in the gospels. And so it gives us a unique glimpse into the relationship of God the Father and God the Son. It shows us Jesus’ greatest priorities as he faces the cross. It shows Jesus praying for his people, acting as our sympathetic and merciful high priest. So we listen in to this prayer to be shaped by Jesus’ priority. And we listen in to be reassured that Jesus cares about these things and sure that his Father will answer his prayer.
