Exodus 24-40: Worshipping the God who lives among us
Exodus 1-19 showed the dramatic rescue of the Israelites from slavery in Egypt to Mount Sinai to meet with God. This is a picture of the greater rescue from slavery to sin and Satan that Jesus accomplishes at the cross. The very physical rescue more than 3000 years ago, helps us to understand the spiritual rescue that Jesus achieves.
Something similar is true with what happens in the second half of Exodus. God is instructing his people how to build a special place for God to live among his people in the middle of their camp. And once again, the physical details of Israelite worship and life with God help us to understand true spiritual worship as followers of Jesus. God is preparing the way for us to understand Jesus as the true meeting place of God and humanity. And knowing God, meeting with him, is not just a hobby, but is the source of ultimate life, meaning, love and hope.
